What is the DFA Netroots Nation Scholarship Competition?
Every year, the Netroots Nation Convention has provided progressive activists and candidates for office a forum to strengthen the online community and grow the progressive movement while inspiring action and growing new ideas to affect change.

Democracy for America members have helped to make the convention a success every year by attending, contributing funds and participating in discussions. Since 2008, DFA members have helped grow Netroots Nation by finding and supporting activists who couldn't afford to attend the convention on their own.

Thanks to the tremendous support of thousands of DFA members across the country, last year DFA sent a fantastic group of progressive activists to Netroots Nation in Detroit, MI. This year, we're working to do it again at Netroots Nation 2015 in Phoenix, AZ from July 16th to 19th.

Is there a deadline to apply?
There is one round of applications and voting. Applicants may apply for a scholarship from the contest launch through 11:59 PM Pacific Time on May 11th.  As a select group will be awarded the scholarship based on the support they receive through the voting process, it benefits applicants to submit their application as soon as possible. Voting will continue through 11:59 PM Pacific Time on May 11th, 2015.

Why are the applications highlighted in different colors?
As a grassroots organization, we look to the progressive community to help pick the best scholars. You can do this by voting for your favorite applicants. The gold, silver, bronze and plain highlights reflect the amount of support a scholar has received.

The top five vote getters are in the gold tier and will automatically receive a scholarship. The remaining tiers will be used by the selection committee to help pick the other twenty-five scholars. The more votes you receive, the more likely you are to be selected.

When will winners be notified?
Selected applicants will be notified no later than close of business on May 15th, 2015.

What are the selection criteria?
We will send a diverse group of 30 progressive activists to Netroots Nation 2015. The selection committee is looking for applicants with compelling stories, who are active online and offline, and who will thrive from their Netroots Nation experience. Our goal is to find people who will expand the Netroots Nation community with fresh ideas and energy.

DFA members and netroots activists from across the country will have the opportunity to help choose who we send to the convention by voting for those candidates they think will both contribute to and benefit from Netroots Nation.

If you’re applying, be sure to get out the vote for yourself by asking your family, friends and personal network to vote for you in this year's competition. All other scholarships will be chosen at the discretion of the selection committee. The selection committee is comprised of the staff of DFA and the staff of Netroots Nation.

What does the scholarship provide?
The DFA Netroots Nation Scholarship covers the cost of one all-conference pass to Netroots Nation 2015 in Phoenix, AZ and hotel accommodations for one from July 16th – July 19th, 2015. Scholarship winners will be responsible for arranging their own transportation to and from the convention and all meals.
