My political story
I am a lifelong activist for progressive issues. I started my first "ban the bomb" group at 13 and stood 100' from Martin Luther King during the "I have a dream" speech. For me, acting on my beliefs is an essential part of life--I cannot be a spectator in the human experience. As an early childhood educator, I worked for many years for quality education, universal preschool and workforce development and living wage. I lived in Reno, Nevada for 3 months working on the 2008 Obama campaign, then continued as an OFA Regional Organizer. I have also served as a Regional Organizer for MoveOn from San Francisco to the Oregon border and have worked closely with Move to Amend as a County Coordinator and on statewide projects.
Why I deserve a Netroots Nation Scholarship
Most people assume I am paid staff because of the energy I expend, but I am a volunteer in everything I do. It is my self-imposed tariff for sharing the planet. I don't have the financial ability to attend all the things that might enhance my work, so a scholarship would be much appreciated.
What first inspired me to get involved

The blog post I am most proud of
I am proud of all the work I do. Most recently, I gathered over 15,000 signatures, in several days, to ban fracking in California then encouraged signers to call Governor Brown, which generated hundreds of calls. I personally delivered the signatures to the Governor's office, coinciding with a visibility event by Californians against Fracking.
More about my political involvement
I am an active DFA member but I have also volunteered as a Regional Director for OFA and MoveOn and Move to Amend county chair. I now "freelance" my volunteer efforts so I can work on the issues that resonate most strongly with me. That could be a city council race, banning fracking in California or overturning Citizens United.
My wild idea for a cool new action
I do use YouPower as an organizing tool. My latest petition called for a ban on fracking in California.
