My political story

The first time I voted was in the 2004 national election. I lined up at the firestation in the small town of Tobyhanna, PA. I was voting for Kerry because I knew the war had to come to an end. What was promised as a war that would end in as little as six month morphed into America's longest military engagement. As a veteran, peace continues to be very important to me. I want to see a progressive win in 2016 iso America can have peace and prosper.

Why I deserve a Netroots Nation Scholarship

I deserve the Netroots Nation Scholarship because I share the same values as Netroots. I believe in the left. I know America doesn't need a mediator in cheif but a candidate with real vision. My voice matters and I know it resonates with other young latino and progressive voters. If awarded the scholarship I promise to bring the energy and enthusiasm Netroots 2015 needs!

What first inspired me to get involved

As a US Navy sailor I spent a lot of time out to sea. This gave me time to contemplate about our nation and the world. I asked myself what we were doing out there doing circles in the gulf. What was it all for? Shortly after getting out of the military I attended my events surrounding the Citizens United decision. I became a political junkie but the more I saw, the more I was turned off. This pay to play system needs to go. The people need true representation.

The blog post I am most proud of

Currently I am running the 15 Now Tacoma Facbook Page. I have been central to the promotion and crafting of messaging as well as finding and contributing new content.

More about my political involvement

I actively sign Netroots petitions and give small contributions a poor college student can afford. I volunteer with 15 Now Tacoma, a group putting an initiative on the ballot to raise the minimum wage in Tacoma. I am also active in organizing rallies and marches in Pasco, WA where a Mexican immigrant was shot to death by three cops. I also participate in a local group called Tacoma Action Collective who have put on events for Tamir Rice and black brunchs. #BlackBrunchTacoma

How I've gotten others involved

I have collected signatures and done some canvassing for 15 Now Tacoma. I also plan to be involved in upcoming local elections.

Why I think participation in the netroots is important

Netroots is a leading organization with their ear to the ground. I feel it is one of the more democratic organizations. It is not astroturf.

My Twitter manifesto on online activism

It works by informing and engaging people in issues that affect them.

If I could design a bumper sticker it would say:

Raise the wage not the SS age

My wild idea for a cool new action

I would start a petition to block the FastTrack of the TPP.
